Of all the pedestrian and bicycle bridges redefining the city’s urban planning, Cirkelbroen, or Circle Bridge, is perhaps the most stunning. The bridge was created by famous and prize-winning Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson to honor Christianshavn’s maritime heritage. The bridge is made up of five circular platforms of varied diameters, each supported by a steel cable and equipped with a separate mast, which when combined closely resemble a ship. Cirkelbroen, which spans the canal and connects Appelbys Plads in the south to Christiansbro in the north, making life simpler for residents and visitors. Along with being useful, the architectural landmark of the harbor’s striking design offers for a great photo opportunity. Wide circular platforms are set in a jumbled, staggered style to entice walkers and bikers to pause and take it all in.
