Karmeliterklosteret Sankt Mariae Kirke

H. C. Andersen called this “one of the most beautiful sites in Denmark” and it is regarded as one of Scandinavia’s best-preserved medieval monasteries. Built-in the latter part of the 15th century, the Gothic structure previously belonged to the Carmelites. The “Bird Room,” which includes ornithological frescoes, is one of its highlights. Dyveke, Christian II’s mistress, is said to be buried on the grounds; she passed away in 1517.
