Kunstforeningen GL STRAND

The artist and lecturer C W Eckersberg established GL STRAND in 1825 in an effort to close the gap between the elite art establishment and the watching public and make art more approachable. The organization’s current focus and support are on up-and-coming young artists. Since 1952, the gallery has been housed in the building on Gammel Strand that Philip de Lange, an architect from the 18th century, constructed. Instead than maintaining a permanent collection, GL STRAND relies on transient exhibitions that highlight certain artists. In the course of its existence, GL STRAND has played home to a number of noteworthy exhibits by individuals such as Edvard Munch (1908), Asger Jorn (1953), David Lynch (2010), and Louise Bourgeois (2011).
