This one-of-a-kind exhibition venue, located in the restored 13th-century Sankt Nikolaj Kirke, aims to display previously unseen work and stimulate public discussion. The arts center seeks to promote innovation and experimentation while advancing the conversation between Danish and foreign art while including both historical viewpoints and current trends.
Every year, Nikolaj Kunsthal hosts five to six shows. One of these is targeted primarily towards kids and teenagers. Another is the Fokus Video Art Festival, which debuts works by Danish and foreign artists together with Q&As and other activities in February.
The wide arched spaces become part of the pieces on display, and the cultural legacy of the building is interwoven into the institution’s identity and frequently the exhibitions as well.
